| It is
a small gaming world. International gambling issues, when measured
against each other, do not differ greatly from country to country.
What usually tends to be different is the way international
governments deal with these issues. There are many areas of the
United State battling a rise in illegal slot machine operations.
Illegal slot machines, especially video slots, have been discovered
in bars and even supermarkets. For instance, Maryland State police
have recently encountered an entire underground slot machine ring.
The town of Springbok in
South Africa is experiencing a similar problem. Several raids by
South Africa’s Northern Cape police and the Provincial Gambling
Board at local gaming venues have uncovered three illegal gambling
facilities. Like any other group of authorities, the Northern Cape
police force confiscated the slot machines from the establishments.
That, however, is where the similarities end.
According to Gambling Board
spokesperson Thapelo Motsage, there were over 40 slot machines
discovered. Each one of them was promptly disposed of. How so?
They were each dropped down an old mine shaft. Dramatic and rather
effective. Motsage says the intention of the operation was to
eliminate all illegal gambling in the province.
The Gambling Board and local police have every intention of
arresting all operators involved in illegal casino gambling.
