- Learn and Earn’s determination to get their slot machine issue on
the November Ohio ballot has forced the entire state to strongly
consider their feelings on slot machine sponsored social benefits.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, however, feels he has considered the
matter enough. Mayor Jackson stands confidently behind the
legalization of slot machines in his city.
The slot machine proposal
would not only bring slot machines to the city, but Cleveland will
host two slot machine casinos. Jackson said the November ballot
proposal will receive his full support.
Jackson recognizes the many
positives that two slot machine casinos will bring to his city. The
casinos will create no less than 5,300 new jobs for the community.
Cleveland city coffers will also earn $75 million annually from
taxation on slot machine revenues.
An amendment to the Ohio
state Constitution is on the line with the Learn and Earn proposal.
Ohio would receive a boost in state sanctioned gaming by adding
31,000 slot machines in nine gambling locations across the state.
Jackson sees more than just the Cleveland benefits. Learn and
Earn’s proposal will set aside a large portion of gaming revenues to
sponsor in-state college tuition scholarships.
Ohio officials are hoping
that their new slot machine locations and casinos will keep gambling
money in state as opposed to Michigan, West Virginia, and Indiana
where it currently migrates.
An amendment is required for
Cleveland to even vote on the slot machine issues as gambling is
currently forbidden according to Ohio state law.
