South Korea
– The country’s video slot machine scandal continues to heat up.
Woojyun Systec headquarters was searched by the Seoul district
prosecutor’s office. Roh Ji-won, nephew to the nation’s President
Roh Moo-hyun, acted as director for the company.
Woojyun Systec
is very much intertwined with the controversial slot machine “Sea
Story. Ziko Prime, the “Sea Story” slot machine distributor,
acquired the communication equipment company. Roh Ji-won made his
exit from Woojyun Systec back in early July when Ziko Prime found
itself searched and seized by the prosecutor’s office.
Officials
currently have Choi Jun-won, CEO of Ziko Prime, under custody. The
prosecutor’s office is trying to garner more information from him as
to why his company received a 6.5 billion won (the won is South
Korea's base monetary unit) subsidy from the South Korean government
during Ziko Primes acquisition of Woojyun Systec.
A warrant for
the arrest of Korea Computer Game Industry Association president Kim
Min-seok was requested. The prosecution would like to charge him
with illegal lobbying.
Hyundai Korea
apparently gifted 200 video slot machines to Kim some time ago. The
alleged reason for the present, worth 1.7 billion won, was to
persuade Kim to aid the company in passing the Korea Media Rating
Board review. Hyundai Korea manufactures the “Golden
Castle” video slot machine. Kim is also being accused of operating a game
arcade where, of the 200 slot machines, 150 were established under a
false name.
The former
senior member of the Culture and Tourism Committee of the National
Assembly, Kim Moon-hee already had intensions of probing into Kim
Min-seok’s activities.
